Is working with AI still authentic? (Yes – more than ever)
At Dartschool, I try to lead with heart. No flashy marketing tactics, no gimmicks – just real value for real players. Especially beginners and those still nervous about scoring during matches.
And yet… I use AI. A lot, actually. And I’m open about that.
But Tommy, if you use AI so much, is your work still genuine? Is it still yours?
Fair question. And the short answer is: yes – more than ever.
AI as co-intelligence, not a replacement
Ethan Mollick describes it beautifully in his book Co-Intelligence: AI doesn’t have to threaten authenticity or creativity. On the contrary – when used wisely, it amplifies your voice, your vision, your ideas. It’s not the end product – it’s your companion. A sounding board that helps you think sharper, write better, and learn faster.
For me, the process looks like this:
I write. AI helps me restructure and refine. I adjust. Real people review. I make the final call.
The end result? 100% mine – just sharper, clearer, better.
Writing with AI: no copy-paste, just co-creation
When I write blog posts, workshop texts or emails, I often ask AI:
- Could you help structure this better?
- How would you improve this sentence?
But I never say:
Write me 10 blog posts about darts scoring.
That wouldn’t feel real – and honestly, I’ve got no shortage of ideas 😉
Strategic thinking: a sparring partner that never gets tired
AI also helps me think through strategy. Like the time I had to draft a quote for a company sports day. The client was 100% focused on price.
I really wanted the project – but how far could I lower my rate without compromising my values?
With AI, I weighed the options: What’s my minimum price? What’s the added value? What are the risks?
In the end, I didn’t get the job – someone else was cheaper.
But I had zero regrets. AI helped me see things clearly and make the right call.
What I do and don't use AI for
People often ask: Do you let ChatGPT do everything for you?
Absolutely not. Here’s a quick breakdown:
✅ What I do use AI for:
-
Rewriting and restructuring my own drafts
-
Sharpening titles and intros
-
Brainstorming: “Give me 10 takes on this tip”
-
Strategic exercises: “What are the pros and cons of X?”
-
Ethical reflections or second opinions
❌ What I don't use AI for:
-
Writing full eBooks
(“Write an eBook on stress when scoring in darts”) -
Generating content I don’t feel myself
(“Write 10 blogs on how players struggle in matches”) -
Auto-generating social posts to promote my books
(“Make 10 promo posts for my eBook”) -
Pretending to be someone or something I’m not
For me, authenticity isn’t a style choice – it’s the foundation.
And AI respects that, as long as I stay in charge.
Creativity needs company
Mollick writes that there’s an enormous amount of creativity in people –
but many don’t know how to unlock it.
That’s where AI can help. It gives you a push, a structure, a mirror.
Not as a replacement, but as a catalyst for what’s already inside you.
“When inspiration strikes, ignore at your own peril.”
Well, thanks to AI, I’ve finally found a partner that helps me act on that inspiration.
And that makes my work – and my connection with you, the dart players – even more real.
Curious how I use AI at Dartschool?
I’m currently writing a blog series about how AI boosts my work – from content creation to product ideas. Stay tuned!
Or just send me a message – yes, I still reply personally. 😉
